INDONESIA

But there are Verdant jungles, wondrous gatherings of wildlife, and perhaps Indonesia's most independent ethnic groups.

East of Java lies Bali, which needs little introduction since most foreign visitor seem to head there directly
Behind Bali is Lombok and then  Nusa tenggara, or what the Colonial European called the lesser sundas. From here eastward, the islands are tiny, at least until one reaches new Guinea, the western half of which belongs to Indonesia. Called Papua ( formerly irian jaya ), it was a land of unknown peoples and mountain valleys until early in the 20th Century

Due north of Java is Kalimantan, Indonesians portion of the mystical island of Borneo. Kalimantan was once synonymous with remoteness, inaccessibility and headhunters, today it suggest Timber wealth and oil frontiers

This leaves Sulawesi and Maluku, Sulawesi is home  to unique tribe who Bury their dead in the limestone cliffs, leaving behind wooden effigies to protect them. The original spice islands, at one time only in Maluku did nutmeg, cloves and mace grow, making these islands am obsession of European national

Although the country remains for the large part a safe and desirable tourist destination, visitor would do well to stay informed abouth the trouble spots and to avoid them
Take along large doses of common sense, which Will stand you in good stead
